PRE-PRIMARY
Dinosaur Provocation
Our Grade 00 Crawford International La Lucia Pre-Primary explorers stepped back in time with a ROAR-some provocation in April! As part of our IB PYP, there are “provocations” throughout our students’ learning journeys to create excitement and engagement for their unit of inquiry. As our Grade 00 students had been learning about prehistoric animals, we of course had to set up an environment to build curiosity and critical thinking while they looked at the giant dinosaur footprints and mysteriously large eggs around their school yard. This all culminated in a very exciting (and daunting for some) dino-sized visit from some very friendly T-Rex’s.
PREPARATORY
Family Picnic Fun
On a beautiful April afternoon, Crawford International La Lucia Preparatory hosted our much-anticipated Grade 0–7 Family Picnic on Breakers Field. Families, students, and staff came together to celebrate the spirit of community, creating an atmosphere filled with laughter, joy, and heartfelt connections.
Throughout the afternoon, the sound of children's laughter echoed across the field as they enjoyed the inflatables and other fun rides. Later, spirited “dance-offs” between the different Grades brought energy and excitement to the event, with students showcasing their moves to the delight of cheering parents and teachers.
We were also treated to outstanding live performances by two exceptional musical artists, whose performances provided the perfect soundtrack to the day.
It was truly a memorable experience that captured the heart of what makes Crawford International La Lucia such a special place, a strong, vibrant community coming together to celebrate friendship, family, and fun.
COLLEGE
Hockey Festival Success
On the 21st and 22nd of March, we hosted our annual Crawford International La Lucia College Hockey Festival, and what a fantastic event it was! With a total of 20 teams - 12 girls’ teams and 8 boys’ teams - we witnessed some exhilarating hockey matches throughout the festival.
The beautiful Durban weather created the perfect atmosphere, encouraging supporters to stay, soak in the excitement, and cheer on their teams. In the end, Ashton College emerged victorious in the boys’ division, while Curro Hillcrest High School claimed the title in the girls’ section.
A huge thank you to SMG Umhlanga for sponsoring the prizes for our top goal scorers and goalkeepers, Emperor Hockey for awarding gloves to the top defenders, and Kookaburra for sponsoring a hockey stick for the overall top goal scorer. We also appreciate the generous contributions from aQuellé, Milo and Shield, who added to the fun and surprised our students with some fantastic treats!
Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to all the coaches, umpires, parents, and students who played a role in making this festival a great success.
