Grade 0 inquiry through play
Our learner profile for the month is Inquirer. Grade 0 students are natural inquirers, and playtime allows them to explore their curiosity and build learning skills.
Independently and in groups, they explore questions such as what is inside a pod or how sound travels through a drainage system. Some have also taken a closer look at geomorphology. With recent rainfall, a small dam formed in the playground. The students created a canal to redirect the water and ensure proper flow to the Grade 00 playground. Their solution inspired Grade 00 students to continue the work.
What may seem like mess is, in fact, meaningful learning through inquiry.
Exploring the gift of sight
Our Pre-Primary students recently explored the sense of sight and the importance of eye care.
They read a story that helped them understand that wearing glasses is both acceptable and exciting. After making their own glasses, the students played a game of eye spy wearing their creations. They then investigated how other senses are heightened when sight is limited, using a feely bag to explore texture and shape.
Crawford Lonehill alumnus takes on the world stage
At 19, Crawford Lonehill alumnus Luke Westman is representing South Africa and IFSC Africa at two IFSC World Cup events in Switzerland and Austria this June.
Luke earned his Protea Youth Climbing Colours in 2024 after competing at the Youth World Championship in China. Now stepping into the senior level, he is embracing the opportunity and the challenge.
Luke began climbing at age nine and now trains up to six days a week. He also coaches young climbers at CityROCK and at Crawford Lonehill through INSIDEedge Climbing.
A representative from Gauteng Climbing has confirmed that Luke is one of many athletes travelling abroad to represent the country and the continent. His story reflects commitment and inspires young climbers across the province.
Starting the term with interhouse sports
The second term kicked off with Interhouse Netball and Soccer, bringing energy and excitement to the Crawford Lonehill Preparatory grounds.
Students gave their all on the court and field, with determined performances and enthusiastic support from the sidelines. Parents joined the fun, cheering on their children throughout the day.
Thank you to the dedicated staff who made the event possible and contributed to a day of unity and memorable moments.
