Celebrating Spring at Crawford International Bedfordview Pre-Primary
Spring has officially sprung at Crawford International Bedfordview Pre-Primary, and what better way to welcome the season than with a day filled with colour, planting, exploration and a little something sweet.
Our students arrived at school dressed in their favourite spring-inspired outfits, bringing a wonderful burst of colour and excitement to the school. The day was all about celebrating new beginnings and encouraging our children to connect with and care for the natural world around them.
Each class was given a special plant to replant into a larger pot. But this was more than simply putting a plant into some soil! The students were encouraged to name their plant, research it, and discover what it needs to grow and thrive. They explored questions such as how much water and sunlight their plant needs and how they can care for it.
These plants will become the class plants for the remainder of the year, with each class taking responsibility for nurturing and watching their plant grow. Once the plants are big and strong enough, they will be planted outside, creating a lasting reminder of the care and learning that took place throughout the year.
Our Spring Day was a wonderful opportunity for our students to experience firsthand that growth takes time, care, and nurturing. Through planting and caring for living things, they are developing a deeper sense of responsibility and connection to the world around them.

Preparatory
Exploring Space in Grade 2
The Grade 2 students have been exploring the wonders of space! As part of their learning, they have been discovering the different planets in our solar system and learning about what makes each one unique.
They have also been learning about constellations, discovering how groups of stars form recognizable patterns. Through this exciting topic, the students have been developing their curiosity about the world beyond Earth and asking thoughtful questions about the universe.
It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they explore, investigate and learn more about the fascinating world of space.
College
A Day in the Life of College Student
Our Grade 7 students recently had the exciting opportunity to spend a day in the College, experiencing both the social and academic aspects of College life. Throughout the day, students engaged with a multitude of teachers and subjects, giving them a glimpse into the opportunities, experiences and learning that await them as they transition into Grade 8.
Visual Arts
Crawford International Bedfordview's Grade 7s had the opportunity to spend some time in the College Visual Arts class. Given that the Grade 9s have recently started their sculpture project, everything lined up perfectly for the Grade 7s to make miniature sculptures. These little artworks allowed them to get their hands dirty while learning some sculpture basics. For the meantime, their sculptures are being kept safely out of the way to ensure that they do not get broken during this delicate period of time while they are not much more than neatly shaped dried mud. Later in the cycle, they will be fired into hardened ceramics for the Grade 7s to take home.
Engineering Graphics and Design
Grade 7 students stepped beyond the classroom and explored the school campus as part of an introduction to the Civil component of Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD). The walk allowed students to identify real-life building features and structures that they will later learn to draw and interpret in high school. It was a valuable opportunity to connect everyday observations with formal classroom knowledge, helping students see how the concepts they will learn on paper are applied in the world around them.
Life Sciences
Our Grade 7 students recently had the opportunity to attend a Life Sciences experience normally designed for Grade 8 students. The practical lesson introduced them to the fascinating world of scientific investigation and medical diagnostics. During the activity, students were presented with mystery samples of simulated urine and were challenged to determine which sample could belong to a person living with diabetes. Using testing procedures and careful observation, they analysed the samples, recorded their findings, and worked together to draw scientific conclusions. The practical gave students a glimpse into how doctors, veterinarians, and healthcare professionals use laboratory tests to help diagnose illnesses.
Experiences like these are an important part of developing curiosity and critical thinking skills. My goal is not only to inspire the next generation of doctors and veterinarians, but also to encourage future researchers, scientists, and innovators. Through hands-on investigations, students discover that science is about asking questions, solving problems, and making discoveries that can improve the world around us. The enthusiasm and engagement shown by the Grade 7 students were remarkable, and it was exciting to see so many young minds embracing the challenge of scientific inquiry.
