Children's Book Drive for Golang Education Outreach
This term, we are proud to launch a Children’s Book Drive in support of Golang Education Outreach, in celebration of International Literacy Week this September.
Golang, based at the Emthonjeni Community Centre in Honeydew, has been uplifting the lives of children in Zandspruit since 2002 through education and care. Their holistic approach includes a preschool, an aftercare programme, and a youth initiative, reaching over 300 children and teens.

Our Grade 3 students explore the Respiratory System
Our Grade 3 students recently brought the respiratory system to life with a fun and interactive hands-on activity.
Using straws and balloons, they created their own models of lungs, giving them a visual and tactile understanding of how we breathe. As they pulled and pushed on their "diaphragms," they could see the balloons (lungs) inflate and deflate, just like in real life!
This creative activity made learning both meaningful and memorable. The excitement and enthusiasm in the classroom was contagious.

A Magical Day at RACA for Crawford Ruimsig College
Friday, 15 August was a memorable day for our school as our incredibly talented students took part in the RACA Eisteddfod. The event celebrated various artistic expression, and our students shone brightly in every category from marimba and choir to drama, dance, art, photography, and public speaking. Their hard work and passion were evident on stage, with many achieving 90% and above for their performances.
We are thrilled to announce the results of our group performances:
- Choir – Diamond (95%+)
- Rest in Heat – Diamond (95%+)
- Marimba Junior Band – Diamond (95%+)
- Elite Eagles Dance Crew – Platinum (90%+)
- The Other Side of No – Platinum (90%+)
- Bonds and Boxes – Platinum (90%+)
- Marimba Senior Band – Platinum (90%+)
In addition, students also individually showcased their talents as they excelled in solo vocal performances, pageantry, art, photography, prepared and unprepared reading, and prepared and unprepared speaking. With many students walking away with a Diamond certificate.
Our students also received valuable feedback from the judges, which will help them polish their performances ahead of the Con Spirito Forte round later this month.
Spotlight on Talent! - Phatsimo Msomi
A huge congratulations to Phatsimo Msomi, our shining #Grade5 star, on being cast in the beloved stage musical, Matilda!
We are bursting with pride to announce that Phatsimo has earned a role in this iconic production, based on Roald Dahl’s timeless classic. Her incredible talent, passion, and dedication to the performing arts have truly paid off - and we couldn't be more thrilled!
Catch her on stage at the People’s Theatre from 10 June to 27 July as she brings magic, mischief, and heart to the stage.
Phatsimo, your Crawford family is so proud of you! Keep shining – you were born for the spotlight.
Racing into Victory
A massive congratulations to our talented #Grade11 student, Oratilwe Phiri, who took on Killarney International Raceway in Cape Town recently – and what a performance it was!
"It was my first time racing at @killarney_internationalraceway – and it was one for the books!" After days of learning, improving, and prepping, he qualified 1st in class and 3rd overall with an impressive lap time of 1:13:422.
Race 1 saw him take the class win and finish 3rd overall. Then came the rain – and his first-ever 600cc wet race. "After two laps, I was leading the race with the 1000ccs chasing me… but I high sided on Turn 4." Despite the setback, he jumped back on the bike, finished the race riding with one hand, and still secured 3rd in class – taking 1st overall for the weekend.
"Thank you to @lumiracing2025, the dedicated race team, and a special shout-out to Crawford International Ruimsig, I’m so grateful to my school for always supporting my racing aspirations." said Oratilwe.
We are so proud!
A Meaningful Visit to Flora - Compassion in Action
A group of our College Crawfordians recently embraced the opportunity to visit Flora, a sanctuary dedicated to healing broken souls - both human and animal. This special place offers visitors a moment of reflection, whether through walking dogs or spending quiet time with playful kittens.
The visit served as a powerful reminder of the silent suffering many animals endure. Their stories are often unseen, their pain unheard, yet their lives are deeply affected by human actions. As shared by Patience Macheka, "Just because they don’t have a say, doesn’t mean they should be mistreated or ignored."
We are proud of our students for showing empathy, kindness, and a willingness to connect with those who need it most. Experiences like these not only teach compassion but also encourage us to challenge narrow perspectives and embrace a more humane outlook.
BE A HUNGER HERO
Let’s turn empty jars into bottles of HOPE!
Crawford International Ruimsig proudly supports an inspiring initiative led by our very own Grade 10 student, Nuha Minty, who aims to collect and fill 200 jars with nutritious dry ingredients for those in need.
How can you help? Donate any of the following:
- Clean, label-free empty glass jars (coffee, mayo, beetroot, pickle, peanut butter jars)
- Unwrapped stock cubes

Drop off all donations with your register teacher.
Let’s work together to fight food poverty and make a difference - one bottle at a time!
