Pre-Primary
One of the highlights has been our time in the atelier, where the children explored the fascinating world of light and projection. They experimented with manipulating light sources, observing how figures changed in size, and explored how colours transformed through different types of light and translucent materials. Light play not only stimulates the senses but also enhances cognitive development, encouraging children to make predictions, observe cause and effect, and develop spatial awareness. It provides rich opportunities for language development as they describe what they see and collaborate with peers to test ideas and theories.
Sensory play is a daily activity that brings immense delight to our students. Many young children are sensory-avoidant, and offering new, original sensory experiences allows them to engage in ways that feel safe and enjoyable. These activities build confidence, improve fine motor skills, and foster a sense of curiosity and discovery through touch, sound, sight, and movement.
We also had the pleasure of honouring the incredible women in our lives during our special "Superwomen" Tea. The children proudly entertained their guests with songs and dancing, making it a truly memorable celebration.
In our fantasy play area, learners delighted in role play that involved domestic activities enthusiastically practising their washing and ironing skills and learning through imaginative scenarios.
While our Grade 0s completed their MAP assessments this term, play and exploration have remained central to our daily learning experiences. At Crawford, we continue to nurture curiosity and wonder through thoughtfully designed provocations and hands-on discovery.
Consumer Studies Students Explore Fashion Industry at Villioti Fashion Institute
On Saturday, 17 May, Grade 10 and 11 Consumer Studies students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Open Day at Villioti Fashion Institute in Randburg. This excursion formed a meaningful part of their curriculum on textiles and design, offering a first-hand glimpse into the dynamic world of fashion.
The day kicked off with a guided tour of the campus, where students explored the institute’s state-of-the-art facilities and learned about the various programs available to aspiring fashion designers. The tour highlighted the creative and professional paths students could pursue within the fashion industry.
Following the tour, students participated in interactive workshops that brought creativity to life. They took part in a colourful tie-dye activity and a spirited design challenge in which they created outfits using only toilet paper, an exercise that encouraged both imagination and teamwork.
One of the highlights of the day was a thought-provoking presentation by a Villioti lecturer, who spoke about the influence of fashion on identity and branding. Students engaged in a lively game of "Fashion Police," where they examined how fashion choices are shaped by cultural and social contexts, and how personal style can express individuality and values.
Overall, the excursion was a valuable and inspiring experience. It allowed students to connect classroom learning with real-world application, deepening their understanding of the fashion industry and its relevance to Consumer Studies.
COLLEGE SOCCER TOURNAMENT
Recently, our Under 15 and Under 17 boys proudly represented CIB at the annual Drapers Cup tournament, hosted by Pinnacle College Rynfield. It was a weekend filled with determination, teamwork, and promising glimpses of what's to come this season.
Our Under 17 team, newly formed just two weeks before the tournament, showed excellent potential despite the short preparation time. The boys managed to earn two points from two well-fought draws, demonstrating great resilience and a solid foundation for the season ahead.
One of the standout performers was Kyle Strydom, whose confident presence and sharp reflexes in goal earned him much-deserved praise. His performance between the posts kept us in the game during key moments, well done, Kyle! We also extend a big congratulations to Tayaruka Manikai and Boikano Maphanga, who both netted their first goals for CIB. A fantastic achievement for both players!
Our Under 15 boys entered the tournament with high expectations and came in with great energy and focus. Despite dominating possession in several matches and creating numerous scoring opportunities, luck was not on our side. A series of game-changing decisions and countless shots bouncing off the goalposts kept the team from securing a win. Nevertheless, they walked away with three points from three hard-fought draws.
Although the final results may not have reflected the full effort and potential of our players, both age groups displayed courage, teamwork, and commitment throughout the tournament. We’re proud of all the boys and excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
Well done to all!
